Weslaco, TX - Alfredo "Freddy" Caballero, a devoted musician, loving father, and compassionate friend, passed away on December 13, 2023, at the age of 58. Born on October 12, 1965, in Muleshoe, TX, Freddy was known for his exceptional talent as a musician, having played and founded Mariachi Caballero alongside his beloved son, Leonel Caballero.
Freddy's journey in music began at a young age when he first picked up a guitar at the tender age of 7. Over the course of his remarkable 46-year career, he dedicated his life to enchanting audiences with his melodic performances. His musical gifts extended beyond the stage as he actively participated in his local church choir, eventually taking on the role of choir director. Freddy's melodious voice and unwavering faith brought solace and inspiration to all who had the pleasure of hearing him sing.
Beyond his passion for music, Freddy was known for his kind and generous nature. Known as a friend who would go above and beyond to help those in need, he touched countless lives with his acts of compassion. His love for gardening and the outdoors led him to create a tranquil oasis that blossomed with vibrant colors, reflecting his nurturing spirit. He found great joy in spending time at the ranch, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the gentle presence of horses.
In his leisure time, Freddy loved the thrill of visiting casinos, trying his luck and enjoying the excitement of each game. However, it was his greatest delight to spend quality time with his cherished grandchildren, showering them with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Alfredo "Freddy" Caballero is preceded in death by his father, Anacleto Caballero.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Cristina L. Caballero; his sons, Alfredo (Andrea) Caballero, Leonel Caballero, Daniel Caballero, Sebastian Caballero; his daughters, Esperanza (Armando) Layton, Elizabeth Caballero, Carolina (Leroy) Leal, Nancy (Peter) Robles; his mother, Esperanza Muniz Caballero; his brothers, Adolfo Caballero, Armando Caballero, Alejandro Caballero, Anacleto Caballero Jr.; his sisters, Cristela Cruz, Irma Bazan, Aida Rodriguez and 13 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
The funeral services and ceremonies to honor Alfredo Caballero's life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary each evening at 7:00 pm at Salinas Funeral Home of Weslaco - Chapel of the Heavens. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Although Alfredo's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his joyful spirit, enduring love, and harmonious melodies will resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
