Maria Luisa Barco

Maria Luisa Barco, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. She was devoted to her faith, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed a good laugh over coffee with friends.

Maria was born in Kenedy, Texas, on September 20, 1934, but lived her whole life in Elsa, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Rafaela Cruz; 4 brothers ( Francisco Jr., Manuel, Bernardino, Guillermo) and 1 sister ( Maria Refugia Bernal). She was the last descendant of her family.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Eulalio Barco. She is survived by 9 sons, Juan R. Gonzalez ( Vicki Gonzalez), Javier Gonzalez (Irene), Ricardo Cruz (Gracie Cruz), Eulalio Barco Jr. (Olga Barco), Jaime Barco ( Norma Barco), Martin Barco, Gerardo Barco, Israel Barco, and Ismael Barco ( Gloria Barco); 4 daughters, Elizabeth Salinas ( Isidro Salinas), Dora Cecchini ( Edro Cecchini Jr. ), Veronica Calvo, ( Vicente Calvo), and Irma Linda Shortsleeve ( George Shortsleeve). Along with 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Salinas Funeral Home- Chapel of the Angels and on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a 7:00 pm rosary at Salinas Funeral Home- Chapel of the Angels. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church in Monte Alto. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, Texas.
