Mario Ignacio Gonzalez

January 19, 1926 — January 26, 2021

Elsa- Mario Ignacio Gonzalez, 95, passed away on January 26, 2021 at his residence in Elsa.

Our father Mario Ignacio Gonzalez was born to Angel Gonzalez and Maria Teofila Ignacio in the small town of Chinampa de Gorostiza, Veracruz Llave, Mexico.

Mr. Gonzalez is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Petra Maldonado Gonzalez and his daughters: Maura Koepke & San Juana Trevino.

He left home at the young age of 13 to work when he was not allowed to join the army because he was so young. Our father made it to the US border and found employment with Mr. Johnny Boehn in Mission Tx. He next found employment with Mr. George Thornton of Sharyland at Peace and Lumber Co.

He had a small family, his wife, Vicenta Morales Gonzalez, his three daughters Maura, Elvia, and Delia were about to settle in Sharyland, Texas when he tragically lost his wife. As years passed he met and married Petra Maldonado Gonzalez and had Antonio, Amelia, Ramon, Mario Jr, Jose and David Gonzalez. And my cousins Luis and Angel came to live with us. Our father remained in Sharyland with his growing family. The children attending Sharyland School District. The family made yearly trips to Ohio and Florida as migrants to find work.

Our father Mario was a hard working man who came to the US only speaking his native language of Huasteco, he mastered Spanish and English at the same time. We are proud of our fathers heritage; a Huasteco Indian descendant Mayan race making him a part of the great Indian nation spanning South America and across the Americas to Canada.

He was the light of our life, our rock, our mentor, and most cherished of all rolls, he was just our dad.

Rest in peace dad, he is now with our mom Petra and our sisters Maura and San Juana.
